- Demand for proof coins practically disappeared during the mid-teens, but Philadelphia went back into the proof business in 1936 and produced both brilliant and satin examples of the cent and nickel. This is an exceptional example of the latter -- a satin-laden coin endowed with intriguing neon-purple and lavender-violet on the obverse and exquisite peach-gold and purple on the reverse. Both sides appear to be just about fully struck despite a handful of minute pre-strike abrasions that stubbornly remain on the bison's shoulder.
