- 1788 Vermont Copper. RR-28, Bressett 21-U, W-2215. Rarity-5. Bust Right. VF-25.
79.9 grains. Deep golden-tan with lively chestnut highlights. Surfaces microporous under low magnification. Obverse evenly centered, usual die break from E across to R, heavy scratches are visible to the unaided eye at the center, these the only marks to be seen, reverse nicely centered as well, heavy scratches at the center as on the obverse, old scratch at LI, no other prominent marks. No undertype; the Carlotto reference notes: "Specimens are also known that are not overstruck. These are somewhat rare, as compared to overstrikes that are rare in their own right." On a thin and lightweight planchet that falls somewhat below the low end of the Carlotto weight metrology for the variety of 85.6 to 135.9 grains. Condition Census sharpness for the variety.
