- 103.7 grains. A nice medium brown example struck on a round, choice planchet. The surfaces are predominantly smooth and hard with just a trace of original texture remaining in the centers. Speckles of crimson in the right obverse field and over the upper third of the reverse mimic flan flaws during in-hand viewing, but in any case are not distracting and mentioned here solely for accuracy. Border denticulation is beyond the planchet at upper obverse and lower right reverse, but it is crisp elsewhere and all peripheral features are fully present and bold. The effigy and seated figure are likewise bold apart from in the centers, as previously alluded to; wear is moderate, yet even. RR-12 and RR-14 are the two standard 1787 Bust Right Vermonts, the latter a bit more obtainable under normal market conditions. This Richard August RR-14 is about as nice as they come in certified Choice VF and would do equally well in a type set or specialized collection.
