Lot Description
FROM THE SAND HILL COLLECTION. This is a very pleasing, borderline-GEM example of the first 5-cent nickel coinage. Totally original and handsomely toned with soft pastel iridescent toning, which deepens toward the rims. Mostly well struck, the areas of minor weakness show why this metal was so difficult to work with. A warm underlying nickel-silver luster adds to the eye appeal. PCGS 531, NGC 577, CAC 75. There are only five graded MS64+ at PCGS, and this is the ONLY one to have ever sold in auction realizing $1,265 in November 2011. Today the PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $1,000 and this coin should bring more. Cert. Number 25561003 PCGS # 3790
