Lot Description

1855 Round 50 Cents. BG-432. Rarity-5. Liberty Head. MS-64 (PCGS). This is the plate coin for the issue on page 79 of the 2003 edition of the Breen-Gillio reference <em>California Pioneer Fractional Gold</em>. A radiant yellow-gold example with frosty motifs set atop deep pools of reflectivity in the fields. Sharply struck on the obverse, the reverse is a bit lightly struck on portions of the wreath. Scarce as a type, and decidedly rare in the finer Mint State grades, as here.
