- Lot Description
- Breen Die State V. Steely olive-brown surfaces with glints of rose discernible at some of the design elements as the coin rotates under good lighting. The toning is secondary, both sides having been recolored long ago with underlying evidence of a light cleaning. Plenty of bold to sharp detail remains, however, and the in-hand appearance is pleasingly smooth in the absence of sizeable marks. As one of the more readily obtainable die marriages of the 1802 Draped Bust cent, the easily attributed Sheldon-231 is a favorite among both type collectors and variety specialists.
