Lot Description
1848 Liberty Quarter Eagle. MS-61 (NGC). Continuing a trend begun several years before, the Philadelphia Mint produced fewer Quarter Eagles in 1848 than it did the preceding year. In this case far fewer, for the 1848-P has a mintage of only 6,500 pieces. Very scarce in an absolute sense, the present example is nothing short of rare from a condition standpoint. Pretty rose-gold color blankets suitably lustrous, softly frosted surfaces. The obverse is the more sharply struck of the two sides, but even the reverse is generally bold in detail. A definite find for the advanced collector of Liberty gold coinage.
