Lot Description
Outstanding Birmingham Halfpenny Muling 1794 Talbot, Allum & Lee Cent / Birmingham Halfpenny Mule. Fuld Mule-1, W-8665. Rarity-4+. Copper. Lettered Edge. MS-65 BN (PCGS). 151.6 grains. An outstanding specimen, finer than most that we have seen. Both sides are a rich autumn-brown with considerable areas of original mint color still remaining. The fields are reflective with some mirror finish. The obverse is sharply struck throughout, Birmingham halfpenny side typically soft at the boy's head. Walter Breen is said to have seen this piece in 1985 and stated at the time that it was the finest he had encountered and was undoubtedly one of the rare presentation strikes. Provenance: From the Sydney F. Martin Collection. Earlier ex Dave Young; our (Stack's) Americana Sale of January 2003, lot 1057, via Chris Young.
