Lot Description
Steve Nomura captured this stunning coin in July 1994 when it appeared as lot 177 in MB 12, then encased in an NGC MS 63 capsule. This was my description: Lordy, lordy, what a coin! Fiery, frosty luster and a nice strike to boot. You will have no quibble with the grade. The fields are hard, smooth and clean. Perfectionists will note a weakness in the top drapery lines and a single contact mark on the chin. Nothing comparable has reached the auction block since Superior sold a PCGS MS 64 in 1989 for $7,150. Tied for fourth in the Condition Census. Okay, PCGS DID quibble with the grade. You may not. This is a coin with enormous “flash” and eye appeal. If you are assembling a high grade Red Book set, here is your coin. The NGC label accompanies the lot. Est. $4.500 and up.
