- Lot Description
- 1897-S Barber Half Dollar. EF-45 (PCGS).
Blended reddish-gold and steel-gray patina on the obverse, the reverse is equally original in steel-blue and pewter-gray. Like most mintmarked Barber half dollar issues from the 1890s, the 1897-S has a modest mintage (933,900 pieces) and suffered a high rate of attrition through circulation. Even the typically offered survivors in Good and VG are quite scarce, while in attractive Choice EF the present example is rare relative to collector demand.
Provenance: From the Lincoln Square Collection.
PCGS# 6479. NGC ID: 24M2.
