From a mintage of 1,000 Proofs, many of which failed to sell in a contemporary numismatic market that was only just beginning to embrace the Mint's yearly Proof coinage program. With unsold examples eventually finding their way into circulation, survivors such as this smooth and inviting Choice example are understandably scarce in today' market. Lightly toned, more so on the obverse than the reverse.
