Lot Description
1865 Pattern Seated Liberty Half Dollar. Judd-430, Pollock-503. Rarity-6+. Proof-64 BN (PCGS). Struck with the regular dies as were used to coin 1866 (and later) half dollars. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. This popular transitional issue is believed to have been struck along with other restrikes dated 1863 and 1864. It is possible, however, that some of the dozen or so known examples were actually struck in 1865. Teal-blue and golden-brown colors dominate each side of this sharply impressed specimen. Due to the depth of the toning, it is hard to identify any singularly mentionable identifiers.
