This obverse die, used only in the current pairing, is readily attributable due to repunching of numerous letters in the legend. And this is a lovely Gem Uncirculated example, sharply strike on a hard, smooth planchet. Centering is nearly perfect, the denticulation complete around both sides and forming a nice frame to the design elements. Softly frosted in texture with dominant medium brown patina. Direct lighting reveals not only pale powder blue and faded mint orange undertones, but also subtle traces of reflectivity in the fields. Free of distracting marks, spots or other significant blemishes, high grade type collectors of American colonial coinage will flock to this handsome Wood's Hibernia halfpenny.
