1920-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar. MS-61 (NGC). This golden-gray example offers emerging detail to the high points, especially on the reverse. One in a line up of conditionally challenging early San Francisco Mint half dollars of this type, the 1920-S is much more challenging to locate in all Mint State grades than the mintage of 4,624,000 pieces might imply. In fact, Jeff Ambio in his 2008 book, Collecting & Investing Strategies for Walking Liberty Half Dollars, ranked it among the ten rarest Walking Liberty issues in terms of total number of Uncirculated coins known, a status which still stands today in 2017.
