1870 Pattern Dime. Judd-856, Pollock-936. Rarity-6+. Silver. Plain Edge. Proof-66 (NGC). CAC. Obverse is the usual Standard Silver head of Liberty facing right, with stars in her tiara and ribbon behind her hair. She's surrounded by UNITED STATES OF AMERICA with the Motto on a ribbon below. Reverse designs include an open wreath of laurel and oak, inside states 10 CENTS, surrounded at the periphery by STANDARD SILVER and date below.
Exceptional quality with rich gunmetal-blue and gold toning throughout, with sparkling reflectivity in the fields and frosted devices. Free of spots or handling issues, and as nice as a specialist could hope to find.
Of the dozen to 15 known this is tied with a couple of others as the finest seen. A different example has the Cameo contrast seen by NGC. None have been graded finer than PR-65 at PCGS. Highly desirable for the rich toning, rarity and pedigree of this particular specimen.
