- A well produced issue with most examples sharply struck, the 1891-S is also known for above average luster quality. As Wayne Miller reports in his Morgan & Peace Dollar Textbook, "Gems are available with minimum bagmarks and are desired because of their overall attractiveness." Writing in an era before the advent of third-party certification, the author's comment about Gems clearly refers to coins that are graded "only" MS-65 by PCGS or NGC in today's market. Our multiple offerings in this sale notwithstanding, the 1891-S is very scarce in certified MS-66 and rare any finer. This frosty and brilliant beauty will catch the eye of astute Morgan dollar enthusiasts.
