Lot Description

A very challenging Rarity-5 die marriage, the O-129, T-7 shows another engraving blunder, this time the word STATES was originally punched into the die STATED. The incorrect D was partially effaced, and then the proper S was punched over the remnants. Pleasing, evenly worn surfaces show a light antique silver-gray patina, with some gray-dirt in the devices. The devices show a pleasing boldness, implying the strike was especially sharp before this coin went into circulation. Some light marks are noted for accuracy, but have little impact on the great eye appeal. Ex Sheridan Downey Mail Bid 43, August 2016, lot 1. PCGS 2, NGC 1. This coin realized $4,235 nearly six years ago, in a weaker market. Today, the generic PCGS Price Guide value for a 2 Leaf Reverse Flowing Hair half dollar, is $5,500.
