- 1870 Pattern Quarter. Judd-900, Pollock-1015. Rarity-5. Proof-63 (PCGS). 1870 Pattern Quarter. Judd-877, Pollock-974. Rarity-7-. Proof-67 Cameo (NGC). Standard Silver design with a right facing bust of Liberty serving as the focal device on the obverse. Liberty's hair is tied in a bun, and she is wearing a headband inscribed LIBERTY and adorned with a single star. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is around the periphery and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed on a scroll at the lower border. The reverse design features the denomination 25 CENTS and the date 1870 surrounded by a wreath of corn and cotton. The word STANDARD is above. Struck in silver with a reeded edge.<br /> With dusky gray-apricot obverse toning and a lighter, gold and silver-tinged reverse. Light hairlining and overall muting to the surfaces account for the grade. As with the Judd-888 type represented above, Judd-900 is known on both thin and thick planchets, although the weight of the present example has not been ascertained.
