Lot Description
1825 Matron Head Cent. N-9. Rarity-2. MS-64 BN (PCGS). A magnificent near-Gem with a desirable provenance to the famous collection of Ted Naftzger. Blooms of tangerine luster surround the devices and accent the steely-brown patina. Overall glossy and fully untroubled beneath a glass. A mint-made lamination below the second S of STATES serves as a convenient pedigree marker. This is a truly historic piece that ranks among the very finest known from these dies. The Noyes census lists this coin as tied for CC#1 with a grade of MS-65. The Bland census places it at CC#2 with a grade of MS-63. Just two coins have been graded finer by PCGS in this category, which further confirms the superior quality.
