- 1849-O Liberty Head Eagle. Winter-2. VF-35 (PCGS). CAC.
A delightful example that exhibits original orange-olive color. Faint traces of frosty mint luster remain. The strike is a bit soft around the obverse periphery, yet considerably bolder elsewhere, at least in the context of the assigned grade. From a mintage of only 23,900 pieces, and as with virtually every other gold coin struck in New Orleans, wear and tear in commerce was the norm and not the exception. A desirable and genuinely scarce issue in Choice VF, any fully original and problem free 1849-O eagle such as this deserves serious bidder consideration.
Provenance: From the Fairmont Collection - Rhone Set.
CAC Stickered Population: 18 in all grades.
PCGS# 8602. NGC ID: 2636.
