Lot Description
1863/2 Silver Three-Cent Piece. Proof-64 (PCGS). CAC. Gorgeous Choice surfaces exhibit iridescent toning in silver-gray and reddish-gold. The fields are deeply mirrored in finish, the devices with a satin to softly frosted texture that provides enough contrast to suggest a Cameo designation for this premium quality specimen. Writing for the PCGS CoinFactswebsite, Jaime Hernandez states of this variety: "The 1863/2 Proof Three Cent silver over date has slight traces of a 2 digit underneath the 3 digit. The 2 digit can be seen mostly going from the lower portion of the 3 serif to the middle of the 3. The variety seems to be very scarce with possibly no more than 30-50 coins in existence." A significant offering that would make impressive addition to another fine numismatic cabinet. Provenance: From the E. Horatio Morgan Collection. PCGS Population: 12; 12 finer in this category (Proof-67 finest). PCGS# 3713. NGC ID: 22ZP. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
