- Transitional issue. Obv: Longacre's Indian motif as adopted in 1859, here dated 1858, the point of Liberty's bust pointed. Rev: The regular issue design of 1859, with a laurel (or olive - the Mint used both designations in its correspondence) wreath enclosing the denomination ONE CENT. The wreath is composed of clusters of five leaves.
Rick Snow (2014) states that fewer than 10 examples of this die pair were struck; he traces only seven, including one in the Smithsonian, and lists two others which he could not reconcile with any of those seven; he rates this die pair Rarity-7+. This one is a newcomer to the modern census, just certified for the first time. This example did not match it to any of the listed examples. An exceedingly rare example of this popular Indian cent pattern issue.
