Lot Description

An attractive CHOICE example of the first year With Motto type. While 4.27 million No Motto $20s were struck in 1908, only a fraction, 156,258, were coined with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST on the reverse. VERY SCARCE finer than the MS63 grade offered here, this coin is wholesome and original, with a rich orange-gold patina that is accented by a satiny mint frost. There are a few minor ticks noted with the aid of a strong glass. The eye appeal is quite striking for an MS63. PCGS 1120, NGC 499, CAC 37. The most recent PCGS/CAC example to sell realized $4,440 in July 2022; prior to that, you have to go back to July 2019 to find another. The current CAC CPG value is listed at $4,280 and the PCGS Price Guide value is $4,250. Keep in mind the last PCGS MS64 CAC example brought $9,000 in auction.
