1859-S Liberty Half Eagle. EF-45 (PCGS). Evenly patinated in a bold khaki-gold hue, both sides are rather smooth in outward appearance for a circulated S-mint Five from the early frontier era. Suitably bold in detail, and free of all but light wear, this coin represents an important find for the advanced collector of dated Liberty gold coinage. The original mintage of the 1859-S Half Eagle is just 13,220 pieces, the vast majority of which coins have long since been lost to commercial use.
