Lot Description

1877-CC Liberty Half Eagle. VF-30 (NGC). Deep honey gold with olive highlights. An evenly circulated but not overly marked example of a scarce Carson City half eagle issue, a date that saw a mintage of 8,680 pieces, most of which circulated long and hard in the channels of local commerce. Unlike the $20 pieces from Carson City, half eagles were not exported in significant numbers and as a result were not repatriated when European bank vaults were explored in the 1950s and 1960s in the search for American coins.
