1853 N-10 R1 Repunched Date PCGS graded MS64 RED, CAC Approved.Lustrous bright original mint red just starting to mellow to light steel brown on the highpoints with at least 90% of the planchet showing original bright mint color. No spots or stains. The only notable mark is a fine scratch near the dentil tips from star 6 to star 7. MDS, die state b. The fields are covered with fine flowlines and the earlier lines at MER are gone. Minor repunching is still visible on all 4 digits. The is a very shallow low spot on the upper half of the neck and another around NT in CENT, both caused by debris or lubricant on the dies. Our grade is MS64, tied for CC#8 in the Grellman census. However this is one of the "reddest" examples of the variety known to Grellman. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 2 finer in 65.
