- 1886 Indian Cent. Type I Obverse. Proof-66 BN (PCGS). CAC.
This stunning Gem exhibits a base of rich copper-brown patina to both sides. The reverse reveals embedded cobalt blue and rose iridescence as the coin dips into a light, the obverse with even more pronounced overtones of blue, lilac, rose and orange-apricot. Full striking detail and a lively mint finish to silky smooth surfaces further enhance already outstanding eye appeal. From a total mintage of 4,290 Proofs for the 1886 cent, Rick Snow (2014) estimates that 2,540 coins were from the Type I Obverse hub, as here.
Provenance: From the Collection of James Allaire Millholland, 1842-1911.
CAC Population: 15; 3.
