Lot Description

1785 Nova Constellatio Copper. Crosby 4-D, W-1910. Rarity-4+. CONSTELLATIO, Pointed Rays. VF-35 (PCGS). 129.24 grains. This is a pleasing example of this scarce variety, showing olive-brown coloration with golden highlights across the design elements. A touch of softness affects the legends in select areas but the devices are otherwise bold. Traces of the original planchet texture show at the central obverse though the complexion is free from distracting abrasions. The small lump between OV in NOVA allows for easy identification of this die. Provenance: From the Cohasco Collection of Colonials formed by Sir Philip H. Snyder, circa 1963-68. PCGS# 813.
