Lot Description
1850-C Liberty Quarter Eagle. Winter Variety 1 (12-G). AU-53 (NGC). A high mintmark located entirely to the left of the arrow feather easily distinguishes this variety from the Winter Variety 2 1850-C quarter eagle. This evenly patinated, olive-orange example comes down to us from a mintage of 9,148 pieces. An overall soft strike is noted, as always for the issue, and scuffy looking surfaces are commensurate with the assigned grade. Similar in overall rarity to the 1840-C, the 1850-C is rarer than such other Charlotte Mint quarter eagles as the 1843-C Large Date, 1848-C and 1858-C.
