Lot Description
A desirable example of this Newman number, not only is the upper star on the reverse label sharp, but the lower one (often missing) is bold and also fully appreciable. The strike on that side is aligned to 12 o'clock, affecting only the denticulation at top, reverse better centered, both sides with universally bold to sharp detail throughout the design. The surfaces are generally hard and frosty, also predominantly medium autumn-brown in color, but darker color associated with shallow flan fissures and/or carbon build up is evident here and there, most notably at the upper left obverse periphery and along the lower right reverse border. There are no marks of consequence. Usual late die state, with a substantial break within the ring right of 6 o'clock. An endlessly popular variety, and fortunately one that often comes in high grade. As nice as this one is at the certified Choice EF level, its reverse strike with both stars clear is what most recommends it for a well-formed cabinet.
