Lot Description
This is among the FINEST 1881 Proof Morgan dollars graded in the CAMEO designation. The mirrors on this borderline PR68 are deep, clear, and incredibly reflective; both sides are blast white, untoned surfaces have the clearest mirrors that beam with ultra deep clarity. The devices are well struck and fully frosted giving this SUPERB GEM a great amount of intense CAMEO contrast, which is incredibly high-end! Miss Liberty and the details are frosted and have full strikes. Excellent quality in every way, and it is hard to imagine a finer example! The eye appeal is bold! Only 984 proofs were struck for collectors. PCGS 14, NGC 9, CAC 6. There are only four examples graded PR67+ CAM and just two finer. The only one to sell in auction brought $31,725 in our September 2018 Regency Auction, and the current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $38,500. Just two are finer at PCGS, a 68 and 69 CAM. This incredible SUPERB GEM coin is worthy of a magnificent Proof type set or AMAZING set of Proof Morgans. Either way, bidding will be spirited and a record price realized may be hit! Cert.
