1871 Pattern Half Dime. Judd-1066, Pollock-1201. Rarity-7-. Copper. Reeded Edge. Proof-63 RB (NGC). Obverse: Longacre's Liberty as Indian Princess seated to left on a globe, LIBERTY upon a ribbon draped around the globe, furled flags behind, Liberty cap and pole in hand, 13 stars around, date below. Reverse: 5 / CENTS within a cereal wreath of corn and cotton, STANDARD above in small letters. Deep coppery red with lively deep blue iridescence throughout. As noted at the uspatterns.com website: "This was apparently implemented by William Barber as Longacre died in 1869. These were sold as part of complete sets from the half dime to the silver dollar."
