- Exquisite satin smooth surfaces exhibit medium iridescent toning in gray-green and smoky purple hues. Issued in connection with the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition staged in San Francisco. The exposition celebrated the completion of the Panama Canal which opened in 1914. The Panama-Pacific issue is the first commemorative half dollar coined at a branch mint. The median grade for PCGS-certified examples is MS-64. Specimens grading MS-66 or finer are scarce.
