Lot Description

Ex Fairmont Collection, as noted on the insert. Despite a fairly generous mintage in excess of 1 million, the 1894-S is a formidable condition rarity with about two dozen specimens graded in GEM between PCGS and NGC combined. This near-GEM is boldly lustrous with a vivid cartwheel bloom and deep orange-gold coloration that adds to the outstanding eye appeal. Just a trace of contact is all that keeps this brilliant and pedigreed example from a GEM holder. PCGS 415, NGC 106, CAC 34. PCGS has graded 55 in MS64+ with just 16 finer (MS65+ the finest). The most recent example of this date/grade to sell in auction was a different Fairmont Collection coin realized $5,280 in June 2020. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $7,500 and it jumps to $30,000 in MS65. We see this lovely example as being perfect for a high end set! Good luck. Cert. Number 38632403 PCGS # 9026
