- Lot Description
- A scarcer S-mint Seated half in all grades, the 1869-S circulated widely despite having a limited mintage of 656,000 pieces. Because of this circulation, most survivors of the issue are well worn, with Fine and VF being the average grades. High-grade pieces are very scarce, while in Mint State, the 1869-S is nothing short of rare. Sharply struck with richly original toning, this low-population condition rarity belongs in an advanced collection of Seated Liberty coinage. On the obverse and reverse we note mottled copper-russet highlights to otherwise lavender-gray patina. Outwardly distracting abrasions are not seen.
