- Lot Description
- Die State 106.2. An exquisite piece, beautifully toned over lustrous satin surfaces. Both sides are awash in pearl gray iridescence with vivid undertones in powder blue at the peripheries, warmer pinkish-apricot toward the centers. Examples of this Overton number are always more or less soft in strike at upper left reverse, as here, and we also note softness in the opposite area on the obverse for this coin, at the end of Liberty's bust. Minimally marked, as befits the assigned grade, with an impressively smooth appearance during in-hand viewing.<p>The finest 1813 O-106a half dollar is the Pogue specimen in PCGS/CAC MS-65+, which most recently sold at auction in our August 2021 ANA sale. The offered coin in PCGS MS-64+ is also included in the Spring 2025 revision to Stephen J. Herrman's AMBPR for Bust half dollars, in which it is tied for CC#3 as PCGS MS-64. In its current PCGS MS-64+ holder this is the sole CC#3 coin for the 1813 O-106a die state, and it will serve equally well in a specialized Bust half dollar collection or advanced Mint State type set.
