- 1853 Braided Hair Cent. N-5. Rarity-2. Grellman State-a. MS-64BN (PCGS).
Exceptionally uniform and attractive chocolate brown with a gentle mahogany tint. Lustrous and satiny with almost no marks worthy of mention. A subtle inactive spot is seen beneath the eye, but it really is not distracting on this beautiful cent. The early die state with fine repunching visible on the 5 and 3, called "scarce" by Grellman.
EAC:MS62
PCGS# 405988.
Provenance: From the Twin Leaf Collection of United States Large Cents, Part IV. Earlier from McCawley and Grellman, January 1996:611; Stuart MacDonald, Heritage, September 1997:5377.
