Lot Description
1783 Nova Constellatio Copper. Crosby 1-A, W-1860. Rarity-4. CONSTELLATIO, Pointed Rays, Large U.S. EF-45 (PCGS). 132.3 grains. A lovely golden-brown example with a few intermingled blushes of olive-brown on both sides. The surfaces are overall smooth in hand with plenty of good gloss. Accuracy alone compels us to mention a few wispy pin scratches and other minor handling marks, but all in all this is an appealing Choice EF example of the scarcest of the three die marriages of the 1783-dated Nova Constellatio copper issue. Well struck with much of the denticulation evident on both sides. Provenance: Ex Steve Ellsworth, April 6, 2006; Fourth Annual C-4 Convention Sale, November 1998, lot 426. Lot tag, clipped catalog description and collector envelope with attribution and provenance notes included. PCGS# 804. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
