Lot Description
FROM THE WOLVERINE COLLECTION. This is a GORGEOUS, Premium Quality GEM Proof example of the first year of the Indian cent design. This coin is among the absolute finest of this short lived subtype. Highly reflective surfaces are wonderfully toned with sky blue, pinkish-rose, and olive overtones over the original tan-gold of the Copper-nickel planchet. The mirrors are deep and flashy and they contrast against the frosted and razor sharp devices that stand out with bold cameo effect. There are no sizable flecks, carbon, or any distractions that have an impact on the SUPERB eye appeal. The quality is very high end, as evidenced by the dual endorsement of CAC and the Eagle Eye Photo Seal. Only 800 Proofs were struck. PCGS 8, NGC 3, CAC 3. The only CAC-approved example to sell realized $18,800 in the 2013 FUN auction. This coin appears to be the amazing GEM that sold for a record $27,600 in the February 2006 Long Beach auction. Just a single PR66+ CAM is graded finer, which has never come to market. This is the type of coin that you need to ignore the recent comps and price guides and realize what an amazing opportunity this SUPERB GEM presents the Registry Set collector. If you are building a high ranking set of Proof Indian cents, let this important coin be the start to your set. Good luck! Cert. Number 26941945 PCGS # 82247
