Losbeschreibung
1806 Draped Bust Half Dollar. O-114a, T-16. Rarity-4. Pointed 6, Stem Through Claw. VF-35 (PCGS). An iridescent marbling of electric blue and rose gold paints the obverse of this piece, while the reverse is largely untoned and dove gray in hue. The strike is uniform throughout, with traces of mint luster remaining in the protected regions. Just a handful of trivial ticks are seen under magnification and the surfaces are otherwise smooth and pleasing. The diagnostic crack is now in an intermediate state equivalent to Tompkins Die Stage 4, having entirely bisected the reverse from the left wing tip to the E in AMERICA. In the most terminal stages, another crack descends down from the first through the D in UNITED and adjacent ribbon end, creating a massive internal cud. A lovely and scarce example for the variety specialist. Provenance: From the Sutton Court Collection of Early Half Dollar Varieties. Acquired privately from Curt F. Biebel, February 1987. PCGS Population: 1; 4 finer through AU-53 (O-114a variety only). PCGS# 39316. NGC ID: 24EJ. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
