Lot Description
1866 Liberty Seated Dime. Fortin-102b. Rarity-6. MS-64 (PCGS). Although purchased and collected as a Proof from the Empire Collection sale, this represents one of those lucky accidents, as it is actually a prooflike circulation strike and worth more than a Proof as such. Rich lilac and peach at the rightmost portions of both sides lighten to very pale gold toward the left sides. Devices are still mostly frosty, the fields are a combination of prooflike and satiny, as the reflectivity has not yet wholly faded away. Struck from the clashed state of the dies, regarded as an R-6 die state by Fortin. Great eye appeal joins one of the best 1950s pedigrees out there.
