1859 Octagonal 50 Cents. BG-901. Rarity-6+. Liberty Head. MS-65+ (PCGS). Reflective fields support satiny, sharp design elements on both sides of this bright and vivid golden-yellow Gem. The digit 9 in the date is broadly repunched on this variety attributed to maker Frontier, Deviercy & Co. This upper end example combines absolute and condition rarity and will be irresistible to advanced collectors specializing in California small denomination gold coinage. BG Die State II, the "Blind Head" state with Liberty's eye and certain other features of the portrait effaced through die lapping. Provenance: From the Oregon Collection.
