Lot Description
1802 Draped Bust Cent. S-236. Rarity-1. AU-53 BN (NGC). Mottled olive-gray patina mingles with warmer medium brown toning, glints of sandy-tan in the protected areas representing where original mint color was last to fade. Satiny surfaces are hard and tight with a smooth appearance in hand. Expectably well defined for a minimally circulated survivor of this early large cent design type, Liberty's portrait is particularly impressive for the sharpness of detail that it shows. Struck from the latest known state of these dies, Breen State IX, with clash marks on both sides, the reverse shattered by a network of cracks with a prominent cud break at the border outside the letters ST in STATES. PCGS# 1470. NGC ID: 224E. Click here for certification details from NGC.
