- Blazing cartwheel luster swirls over blast white incandescent silver surfaces. Sharply struck on both sides, this premium Gem boasts the eye appeal of an 1881-S. Though nearly 5.3 million examples came off the dies, many bags must have been stored in Treasury vaults and fell victim to the 1918 Pittman Act which called for the mass melting of silver dollars in government holdings. As such, the 1891-S is quite challenging in the MS-66+ grade offered here, and very rare any finer.
