Lot Description
Superb Gem 1897 Barber Quarter 1897 Barber Quarter. MS-67 (PCGS). This is a lovely example that offers exceptional quality and eye appeal. The reverse is untoned apart from delicate champagne-apricot peripheral iridescence, while the obverse displays blended rose-gray and powder blue. The luster is soft and frosty, and the strike is razor sharp to full throughout. For the first time since the launch of the Barber series in 1892, the Philadelphia Mint produced more than 8 million circulation strike quarters in 1897 and survivors are readily available in all but the highest circulated grades. Mint State examples are also obtainable by the standards of the early Barber quarter series, but most grade no finer than MS-64. This high Condition Census Superb Gem is of the utmost rarity in terms of preservation, and it is also a beautiful coin that will please discerning type or date collectors. Estimate: $5,000 - $6,000. PCGS Population: 3; 3 finer (all MS-67+). PCGS# 5616. NGC ID: 23YA. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
