Lot Description
An amazing SUPERB GEM that is the epitome of PERFECTION! How many coins struck for circulation prior to the modern era can possibly survive in this ultra lofty state of preservation? Brilliantly lustrous with a satiny frost that is unbroken in any way. Traces of purple and orange gold cling to the peripheries of this razor sharp Mercury dime. Apparently all the MS69 FB pieces came from a single source, a small hoard of old "dime savers" that had been found in a bank, where the strip of paper that held the dimes in place helped to impart the vivid toning seen on many of these. PCGS 24, NGC 2. The last non-CAC example to sell in a Legend Auction brought $6,169 in September 2018. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $6,500. The only reason why this coin is being sold is the consignor just bought the one out of our September Regency Auction for a record $42,300. Good luck! Cert. Number 25680309 PCGS # 005019
