Lot Description

Tompkins Die Stage 2/1, Rea et al. Die State a. Lightly cleaned ages ago, but now rather nicely retoned in dusky pewter gray with a tinge of pale rose to the obverse. A coupe of tiny digs in the right obverse field are also noted for accuracy, but there is plenty of bold detail remaining throughout the design. This is the third rarest of the six die varieties known for the challenging 1821 issue, so even though this is not a perfect Choice VF survivor, it is numismatically significant and will appeal to many early quarter specialists.
