Lot Description
Looking at this GEM, only one word comes to mind, “ORIGINAL.” Highly reflective fields shine through a deep, dappled toning from storage in old paper. The amber and violet-azure hues dominate, but when viewed at various angles, hints of teal, gold, russet, tan and crimson burst forth. The surfaces are very clean, we see no evident hairlines under the layers of color and the strike is razor sharp. While other examples might have been dipped or otherwise conserved, this coin is a happy exception! Only 650 Proofs were struck. PCGS 40, NGC 41. The most recent example of this date/grade to sell was a PCGS coin, which realized $5,170, which appears to have been dipped before grading, and it had a soft golden-haze. This coin’s toning is quite distinct and pleasing; it should bring a strong price by a collector who appreciates originality. PCGS # 7339 Certification Number 4247856005 PCGS # 7339
