Lot Description

1838 Capped Bust Quarter. B-1, the only known dies. Rarity-1. MS-64 (NGC). Handsomely toned in dominant steely-charcoal, both sides also reveal faint blushes of blue, lilac, gold and pinkish-apricot as the surfaces rotate under a light. The strike is a bit soft around the peripheries, especially on the obverse, but the focal features in and around the centers are razor sharp in detail. Scarce and desirable Choice Mint State quality from the final year of the underrated Capped Bust quarter series. Provenance: From the Dazzling Rarities Collection. PCGS# 39015. NGC ID: 23S5.
