Lot Description
Tied for the finest numerically graded example of this R-3 pattern issue. A transitional pattern, struck in bronze with a plain edge, and struck in medal, not coin turn. Amazing cameo contrast, not recognized by PCGS in any color designation other than RD, provides a good portion of this coin's great eye appeal. Blistering mirrors shine in a light and reflect a teal-blue overtone that graces icy smooth, brilliant brown mirrors. A few indents at the rim appear to be in the planchet and not post mint damage, and do not affect the wonderful overall eye arresting allure. PCGS 2, NGC 0. Neither 66+ BN has ever sold in auction and the CU value somehow has a listing at $4,500. We think that may prove to be low! If this was a regular PR66+ 1863 cent the CU value is $7,250. We will see at the end of the day what this remarkable survivor is worth. Cert. Number 85145810 PCGS # 60454
